Registering a domain name used to be a long, expensive process. Luckily, prices have gone down drastically, and registering a new name is affordable!
What exactly IS a domain name? A domain name is a dot-com. Or dot-net Examples: Yahoo.com, Aol.com, Citizens-in-action.com. The top three most popular extensions for domain names are .net, .org. and .com. Every country has its own extensions for domain names such as .ca, .fr, .ru, .jp.
You can register a domain name with, one company, but have your site hosted elsewhere. To do this, register your domain name, and then change the “DNS” or “Domain Name Servers” to point to your webhosting account.
You can look up to see if your domain name is available, using WHOIS.
